The Beginnings of Econoprint

Econoprint started in 1971, with its first location in downtown Madison, Wisconsin. We provided first of it’s kind, quick printing solutions through the use of new press technology. This efficient model of printing allowed us to print, copy, and finish most projects onsite. The company quickly expanded to nine locations throughout the greater Madison and Wisconsin Dells areas.

Adding Color to Your World

With further innovation in printing presses, Econoprint began to offer quicker and higher quality solutions for our customers. Color printing became easier with the purchase of two-headed offset printing presses, allowing for color print projects to be produced in half the amount of time. Our locations and customer base grew as our name became recognizable in Madison as the go-to source for printing solutions.

Getting Creative with Print

Design and typesetting were added to offer creative services to customers, as well as the ability  make changes and updates to existing artwork. Econoprint also invested in state-of-the-art copiers, making us the first in the Madison market to offer high end production copiers (Xerox DocuTech’s), and opening up new markets for documentation customers.

Full Color Digital Presses Make Their Debut

In the 1990s, Econoprint made an investment in the purchase of two of the first digital presses to be rolled into the United States (Heidelberg GTO-DI). This allowed for true full color offset printing to be offered as a next-day option, with artwork coming directly from electronic files. This technology allowed further advancements in quality, speed, and affordability for full-color printing.

The Communication World Evolves

Econoprint invested in new HP digital presses to offer quicker, higher quality, turnaround on print projects. These digital presses also enabled new features such as variable data, white ink printing, and expanded paper options. We also created a new signage department with state-of-the-art large format equipment, to help customers communicate their message with signage. To address digital communication needs, Econoprint created Powderkeg – a full-service web design and development firm.
